Rotary & Nations Unies

Rotary International and the United Nations have a long-standing partnership dedicated to promoting peace and addressing global humanitarian issues.

Since World War II, Rotary has played a key role in the formation and development of the United Nations, promoting peace and international understanding. Today, Rotary enjoys the highest consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, enabling it to work closely with various UN agencies.

Through the Rotary Representative Network, Rotary members serve as liaisons with these organizations, pursuing their shared mission of peace and development.

Following on from the creation of the United Nations, Rotary was also involved in drafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, signed at the Palais de Chaillot in 1948.

Rotary & UNESCO

Rotary International and UNESCO share a historic and fruitful relationship based on common values and goals for peace and sustainable development. Since its inception, Rotary International has been committed to promoting peace, mutual understanding, and cooperation among peoples, playing a pioneering role in promoting the idea of international organizations dedicated to peace.

Starting in 1942, Rotary brought together education ministers from Allied nations in London for a series of some 20 conferences with the aim of jointly preparing for the future of education programs. These exchanges quickly became regular events, and participants wanted to establish a framework to ensure their continuity. This led to the creation of UNESCO in 1945.

For many years, conferences have been organized by Rotary at UNESCO Headquarters, celebrating the two organizations' shared vision of a peaceful world and highlighting their humanitarian activities around the globe.

Following on from these conferences, the Forum on the Future of International Organizations will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
