International Organizations at a crossroads: challenges of legitimacy, effectiveness, and funding

From 1975 to 1977, H.P. Goldfield served at the White House as Assistant and Law Clerk to Philip W. Buchen, Counsel to President Ford. In 1976, President Ford appointed H.P. Goldfield to a four-year term as a Member of the National Advisory Committee for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. H.P. was also on the White House staff during the Reagan Administration, serving as Assistant Counsel (1981-82) and subsequently as Associate Counsel to the President of the United States (1982-83). During President Reagan’s second term, H.P. was nominated and unanimously confirmed by the US Senate as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Trade Development. President Reagan also appointed H.P. to the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation. H.P. also served on the Board of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (ex officio).

H.P. Goldfield also served as the Vice Chair of Stonebridge International, which would later become Albright Stonebridge Group, which he co-founded with former U.S. Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, and former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, among others.

Through H.P., Hogan Lovells was officially retained in 2007 by HE Ambassador Adel Al Jubeir and the Saudi Embassy in Washington to serve as a strategic advisor and counsel. Hogan Lovells has expanded that role considerably and remains a lead strategic advisor to the Embassy and to HRH Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud.

Hogan Lovells has also provided legal services to MISA, SAMI, PIF, the Ministry of Finance, and Diriyah Company among other Saudi sovereign and private sector entities. H.P. is also honored to have developed close working and personal relationships with many of the senior officials of the Saudi Government.

H.P. has always been a constructive and driving force to both strengthen the US-Saudi bilateral economic, political, and security relationship and, through his consultancy SRC, to bring innovative investment to the Kingdom across many sectors (including pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, mining, renewables, and aviation.)

H.P. is a member of the Bar in New York, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Mr. Goldfield received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and holds a M.A. in Urban Studies from Occidental College. Mr. Goldfield graduated cum laude from Connecticut College with a B.A. in Asian Studies. He has served on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Black & Veatch, Otto Safety Systems, and the International Center for Religion and Diplomacy.
